SUMMARY:Site Tour - ONE PASEO MIXED USE
DESCRIPTION:Please join us on Wednesday\, October 25th on site for this wonderful tour of One Paseo Mixed-Use in Carmel Valley! Ian Morris\, one of the Partners at member firm GroundLevel Landscape Architecture\, will be showing us this beautiful site while discussing the design process. \nFor this unique property at Del Mar Heights Road and El Camino Real\, the community and the land owner worked together\, in conjunction with the City of San Diego\, to create a mixed-use heart of the community. GroundLevel has been a partner in design throughout the site planning and design of the all-important streets\, plazas\, paseos and open spaces. As the project unfolds\, there will be 608 residential homes that are incorporated into night time destinations\, lifestyle retail and corporate office spaces. \n \nOne Paseo embraces sustainability and the opportunity to live-work-play in one place. GroundLevel has developed the designs for streetscapes and pedestrian-friendly public realm outdoor spaces – and also for the people spaces that flow though the retail and office plaza components. One Paseo was one of the first five projects in the country to meet prerequisite review under LEED for Neighborhood Development (LEED-ND) by the U.S. Green Building Council. \nRegister here: https://sdasandiego.ticketleap.com/site-tour–one-paseo-mixed-use/ \n \nPresenter: Ian Morris\, ASLA\, PLA#4988 \nBeginning as a draftsman and a great coffee maker in a residential estate design-build firm in Chicago\, Ian learned then that the process of design always starts with one key element – a story. A story provides coherence to an idea and guidance to creating great places. And Ian does love to tell a great story. Through his 20+ years in design\, Ian has been fortunate to craft great places\, from estate gardens\, to resorts\, to multi-family housing and mixed-use developments.

SUMMARY:SDA San Diego Member Project Tour: Secoya on Fifth!
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for our first in person tour in a long time! We look forward to seeing all of you there for this great tour and lunch\, hosted by SDA San Diego member firm Stephen Dalton Architects. \nThis is a FREE event! Please register so we know how many people to expect and provide refreshments for. \nDonations to SDA San Diego chapter are always appreciated and welcome. Bring a check made out to SDA San Diego or ask a BOD member onsite how to donate if your firm is interested in doing that. \nSecoya on Fifth\, located in the Banker’s Hill neighborhood\, is the first project to pull permit under the city of San Diego’s new Complete Communities ordinance. The ordinance lays out new planning strategies that incentivize the creation of affordable housing\, convenient to transportation nodes. At Secoya\, this increased density is targeted to serve the city’s “missing middle” market.  Mayor Todd Gloria has called Secoya on Fifth “an example of what we need more of in San Diego.” \nSecoya is an all-concrete structure with 7 stories of apartments above ground floor retail and amenity spaces. Despite its density of over 400 units per acre\, Secoya contains a variety of common areas for residents to enjoy including a landscaped courtyard\, spa\, and rooftop terrace. The units provide residents with private balconies and generous windows to take advantage of the stunning views that Secoya commands of Balboa Park to the east and the North San Diego Bay to the west. Secoya on Fifth sets a new standard for generating much-needed urban density without compromising design. \nProject team: \nArchitect/Designer: Stephen Dalton Architects\, Inc. SUMMARY:Webinar: Introduction to R&D Tax Credits
DESCRIPTION:The R&D tax credit is for taxpayers that design\, develop\, or improve products\, processes\, techniques\, formulas\, or software. It’s calculated on the basis of increases in research activities and expenditures—and as a result\, it’s intended to reward companies that pursue innovation with increasing investment. \nIn this session\, Michael will discuss the R&D tax credit; more specifically\, what it is\, who can benefit and how it all works for those in the AEC industry. Real-life examples will be shown and explained\, as well a look into some of the smaller\, but important details about the credit. Since this credit is technological in nature\, companies with employees connected to the sciences are strongly encouraged to explore. \nPresenter:  Michael J Procaccini\, CPA/Engineer – Managing Partner – Algorithm Tax Group \nMichael is the Founder and Managing Partner for Algorithm Tax Group and has over fifteen years of experience working with R&D Tax Credits. His background includes the unique combination of both Accounting and Chemical Engineering – a perfect mix for his role. \nMichael has led and completed thousands of engagements\, in different areas such as construction\, medical devices\, cannabis\, food science and software. The scope of these engagements varies depending on the company\, as he has worked with startups and large companies – and everywhere in between. Algorithm Tax Group takes pride in its new approach to working with clients – efficiently gathering the necessary information in order to complete the calculation. \nConsidered an expert in the field\, Michael is excited to share his knowledge of R&D Tax Credits\, and how they can benefit technical companies. He believes his work is both educational and informative; whether it’s a conference presentation or a meeting with a client. \nhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/michael-j-procaccini-cpa-23b32113/
